    2. and here's the other question:

i just read martin B's piece on using the built=in colour correction filter with Tri-X film to raise contrast. MB says that most cameras will knock out the filter automatically if they don't find the right kind of notch on the cartridge, which TriX doesn't have. so the only way to make the filter usable is to take a notch out yourself with a pair of pliers.

does anyone know if the Canon 1014e is an exception to this rule? i want to shoot mainly in TriX now for a while, to see what it can do, since it looks like the most versatile single option.

    TIA:

    peter

Dont even bother going that way. To increase contrast with B&W film use correct lens filter. Tiffen Yellow 2 (or sometimes called yellow 8) is standard filter for B&W photgraphy. It increases contrast and correct skin tones. It should cost you somewhere between $13-20. It just screws on the front of your lens.

Dont bother breaking tabs on your film. You break more than you want (incorrectly exposing and thus unuseable). The Yellow filter is a cheap and better method.

    Hope this helps!

Bravo crimson son, probably a better alternative...however, do our resident canon owners have an answer to the original question?
